Journalist Ryan Heath, Politico’s Senior EU Correspondent and author of the influential Brussels Playbook, will be one of the judges for our inaugural prize: the Young Professionals in Foreign Policy Brussels Rising Star in Foreign Policy Award 2017.

To be announced at our annual Gala on 24 November, which will feature a keynote speech from former US Ambassador to the EU Anthony L. Gardner, the Award aims to honour an individual aged under 35 and based in Brussels who has achieved outstanding work in the past year.

Ryan Heath, who was recently crowned #1 EU digital influencer by Euractiv, was the guest of honour at last year’s YPFP Gala, where he spoke to more than 100 young professionals about his journalistic experiences in the Brussels bubble and beyond.

Joining him on the jury panel will be Pauline Massart, who recently joined the European Defence Agency as Head of Media and Communication. A highly respected figure on the Brussels communications scene, Pauline is also Vice-President of Women in International Security (WIIS), and previously headed the Peace, Security & Defence Programme of the think-tank Friends of Europe.

Finally, Thomas Sladko rounds off our distinguished panel. Head of Protocol and Public Relations for the ISPD Protocol & Diplomacy Group in Brussels, Thomas previously served as the Deputy Head of Protocol for the Austrian Federal Chancellery, and has over 15 years of professional experience organising more than 300 high-level events including receptions, state visits, and cultural nights.

Any young professional in Brussels, from a charity campaigner to an aspiring business owner, can submit an application for the award, which will be open for applications until 11 November, deadline 12 noon. Once the nominations have closed, YPFP will draw up a list nominees and publish on our blog, with the final decision left in the hands of our expert panel.
